Commercial Solar PV & Battery Storage

Cut energy costs. Use more of your own power.

Warmer Energy designs, installs and maintains commercial solar PV and battery storage systems for businesses, landlords and property owners across the UK. We provide an end-to-end service, from the first assessment of your site and energy use through to system design, installation, commissioning and ongoing support.

Why Choose Us

Build a stronger business case for renewable energy

Commercial solar and battery storage can help reduce exposure to electricity price changes, cut operational carbon emissions and make better use of your property.

Every commercial site is different. Its energy use, available roof space, grid connection and operating hours will all affect the most suitable system and the return it could deliver.

Our team assesses these factors before recommending a solution. We can model expected generation, on-site consumption, annual savings, payback period, internal rate of return and lifetime performance, giving you the information needed to make an informed investment decision.

Commercial solar PV

Create clean electricity from unused roofs or existing farmland.

A well-designed commercial solar PV system can reduce the amount of electricity your organisation buys from the grid without taking valuable land resources away from local farmers. It can be particularly effective for businesses with consistent daytime electricity use, including warehouses, factories, offices, retail premises and multi-occupancy buildings.

  • Site surveys and feasibility assessments
  • Roof condition and suitability reviews
  • Bespoke system design
  • DNO and grid connection applications
  • Planning and technical coordination
  • Installation and commissioning
  • System monitoring
  • Planned maintenance and servicing
  • Energy consumption and generation modelling

We design each system around the property, its electrical infrastructure and the way the organisation uses energy. This helps improve on-site consumption and avoids specifying capacity that cannot be used effectively.

Commercial battery storage

Store electricity and use it when it delivers the most value.

Battery energy storage can be installed alongside a new solar PV system or added to a suitable existing installation. It can help organisations retain more of the electricity they generate instead of exporting it when on-site demand is low. Depending on the site, tariff and system design, battery storage may help you to:

  • Store surplus solar generation for later use
  • Increase consumption of electricity generated on site
  • Make use of lower-cost electricity periods
  • Reduce exposure to electricity price volatility
  • Add flexibility to an existing or planned solar PV system
  • Improve energy resilience where an appropriate backup system is specified
  • Reduce peak-time grid demand

We assess the site’s load profile, operating hours and tariff before recommending whether battery storage forms a sound part of the business case.

ROI

Understand the return before you invest

We provide clear financial and performance modelling as part of the proposal process.
Your commercial energy assessment can consider:

  • Current and projected electricity use
  • Expected solar generation
  • The proportion of electricity likely to be used on site
  • Potential annual energy savings
  • Indicative payback period
  • Internal rate of return
  • Lifetime savings
  • Carbon reduction
  • Maintenance and equipment replacement assumptions

Actual results will depend on factors including energy consumption, electricity prices, system performance, site conditions and the commercial arrangement selected. Our aim is to give you a realistic assessment based on your own premises and energy data.

Finance and investment options

Commercial renewables can be funded in different ways. Warmer can discuss available finance options and provide the technical and financial information needed by your finance team, lender, accountant or tax adviser.

Depending on the arrangement, finance may allow your organisation to spread the cost of installation while beginning to benefit from lower grid electricity consumption. Potential options may include:

  • Capital purchase
  • Hire purchase
  • Business finance
  • Funded energy arrangements, subject to project suitability

The ownership of the equipment, finance structure and tax treatment should all be considered when comparing options. For example, hire purchase and business loan arrangements may allow your business to claim capital allowances where it owns, or is treated as owning, the equipment, while a finance lease usually means the finance company claims them instead.

Considerations

Potential tax and VAT considerations

Eligible expenditure on solar PV and battery equipment may qualify for capital allowances, including the Annual Investment Allowance. The current AIA limit is £1 million, allowing eligible businesses to deduct the full value of qualifying plant and machinery from profits before tax, subject to the applicable rules.

Commercial installations will generally be subject to VAT at the prevailing rate. A VAT-registered business may be able to reclaim VAT on eligible purchases used for its taxable business activities, subject to the normal rules.

Tax treatment depends on individual business circumstances, ownership structure, finance arrangement and applicable tax rules. Warmer does not provide tax advice. Your accountant or tax adviser should confirm how capital allowances, VAT and the chosen finance arrangement apply to your organisation.

Example: In July 2026 a £250,000 qualifying investment could generate a corporation tax saving of £62,500 at the 25% main rate, reducing the effective net cost to £187,500 before electricity savings are considered. The actual benefit will depend on your business’s tax position.

Suitable Properties

Renewable energy for commercial property

Solar PV and battery storage can also support the long-term appeal of a commercial property.

Lower running costs, improved energy performance and access to on-site renewable electricity may make premises more attractive to occupiers with cost or sustainability requirements. The outcome will depend on the property, lease arrangements, energy use and the needs of future tenants or buyers.

We work with owner-occupiers, commercial landlords, managing agents and property investors to design systems that reflect both the building and its intended use.

  • Warehouses and distribution centres
  • Manufacturing and industrial premises
  • Offices and business parks
  • Retail and leisure properties
  • Hotels and hospitality venues
  • Schools and community buildings
  • Care and supported-living settings
  • Multi-occupancy and landlord-owned buildings

Our Process

Our commercial renewables process

Phase 1

Initial consultation

We discuss your site, electricity use, operating hours, objectives and available budget. An energy bill or half-hourly consumption data can help us complete a more accurate initial assessment.

PHASE 2

Site assessment and feasibility

We review the property, available installation space, electrical infrastructure, grid connection and any structural or access considerations.

Phase 3

Performance and financial modelling

We model the proposed system’s generation, on-site consumption, potential savings, carbon impact and indicative financial return.

Phase 4

System design and proposal

You receive a tailored proposal setting out the recommended solar PV and battery capacity, expected performance, project costs and delivery approach.

Phase 5

Finance and approvals

Where required, we can discuss finance options and support grid, planning and technical applications. We can also provide project information for your accountant, tax adviser or finance provider.

Phase 6

Installation and commissioning

Our team manages the installation, testing and commissioning process in line with the agreed programme and relevant standards.

Phase 7

Monitoring and maintenance

Following handover, monitoring and planned maintenance options can help protect system performance and identify potential issues early.

Already have a commercial solar system?

We can also discuss monitoring, maintenance and battery storage options for suitable existing installations.

An assessment can help identify whether the system is performing as expected, whether maintenance is required and whether battery storage could increase the amount of generated electricity used on site.

Start with a commercial energy review
