A warmer, healthier home for Blaenau Ffestiniog family
The technical survey identified that the property had no existing heating system beyond a single gas fire, with all other rooms left without adequate warmth, an issue that can quickly lead to cold, damp living conditions, especially in stone-built properties common to the area. The household’s full heat demand and room-by-room requirements were calculated using PAS-compliant methods, enabling Warmer to design a new heating system tailored to the home and resident’s needs.
The installation included:
- A new high-efficiency Ideal Esprit Eco2 30kW condensing combi boiler, safely installed in the cellar
- A full wet central heating system, including new distribution pipework throughout the property, carefully routed beneath floors and through joists
- Seven new radiators, correctly sized for each room’s heat demand to deliver consistent, even warmth across the whole home
- Smart heating controls, giving the family better control over temperature, comfort and energy use
- Professional lifting and reinstatement of carpets and floorboards where required
This represented the home’s first ever whole-house central heating system, dramatically improving living conditions for the family.
Improving the home’s thermal efficiency
To minimise heat loss and help the new heating system to work efficiently, Warmer also delivered a package of insulation and ventilation upgrades, including:
- Full loft insulation to compliant depth, installed across the entire roof space to reduce heat loss and stabilise indoor temperatures
- Mechanical extract ventilation (dMEV) installed in the bathroom and kitchen to remove moisture at source and protect against damp
- New trickle vents installed on windows in living spaces and bedrooms to maintain healthy airflow and reduce the risk of condensation and mould forming
These measures work together to create a warmer, healthier home environment.
Minimising disruption through a choice-led approach
As part of the grant process, the family were also eligible for a fully funded air source heat pump (ASHP). However, in this particular property, an ASHP would have required the installation of either internal or external wall insulation to work efficiently and effectively.
This level of additional work, especially the disruption associated with internal wall insulation, was considered excessive by the family. After discussing the options with our technical team, they elected for a high-efficiency gas heating system instead.
This choice-first, transparent approach is central to Warmer’s ways of working. We guide, we advise, and the customer decides what is right for their home.
Putting the customer first at every stage
Our tenant-first delivery model was central throughout the project. With four people living in the home, scheduling, communication and minimising disruption were essential. The family were provided with:
- Clear installation timelines
- Advance notice of room access requirements
- Sensitive handling of flooring, belongings and daily routines
- Daily clean-downs and safe working practices
- A full handover including boiler controls, warranty details and aftercare contacts
All workmanship is backed by Warmer’s installation warranty, offering long-term reassurance for the homeowner.
Fully funded through Government grants—No cost to the homeowner
All the works were installed at zero cost to the homeowner, made possible through Government-backed energy-efficiency grants that support both homeowners and landlords to upgrade cold, inefficient homes.
These schemes help households to improve warmth and comfort, reduce long-term running costs, lower the risk of condensation, damp and mould in their home, and increase their homes EPC rating.
Future-proof the home for years to come
Warmer handled the entire process, from eligibility checks through to design, installation and compliance, making the experience simple, stress-free and supportive for the family.
Today, the Fredericks live in a home that is warmer, healthier and far more comfortable. With high-quality central heating, improved insulation and better ventilation, the property now offers the stability and comfort that every family deserves.
